Theme: What If?

Rev Abigail Schairer
Beloved Community,
What if I told you that the most spiritual question you could ask isn’t “Why?”—but “What If?”
As we move out of February’s courageous edge-walking and into the fresh possibility of March, we find ourselves standing at the threshold of imagination. And I mean that in the most serious, sacred, Science of Mind way possible. Ernest Holmes didn’t just encourage us to think positively—he invited us to use our minds (connected with our hearts) as instruments of the Divine. And nothing activates that instrument quite like two little words: What. If.
In a recent talk, I asked, “What if the limitation you’ve been coming up against is not a wall, but a doorway?”
What other “What if” questions could you come up with?
- What if the world is more malleable than we’ve been told?
- What if you are, right now, exactly the person this moment has been waiting for?
- What if you are fully supported by the Universe?
This month, we’re going to play with imagination—not as escapism, not as wishful thinking, but as a genuine spiritual discipline. In the Science of Mind tradition, we understand that the universe responds to our mental images that are anchored in Joy, Peace and Love, that awareness precedes form, and that every outer condition was once an inner vision. That means imagination isn’t a luxury. It’s the engine of creation.
We begin in the inner world—that gorgeous, private universe of our own creation—and ask: what am I dreaming into being? Then we move outward, exploring how our individual visions ripple into the collective. How does my “What if?” connect to yours? How do our shared imaginings become the world we actually live in?
One of my favorite things about this community is that we don’t just talk about transformation—we live it. We’ve been doing the inner work, walking the edge, opening at the top. March is the month we let all of that fuel the fire of imagination.
By the time we reach our fifth Sunday—our Oneness week—we’ll be exploring what it means to become a Possibilitarian. Not someone who sees the glass as half full, but someone who sees the glass, the water, the hand that holds it, and the thirst it quenches as all expressions of the same Infinite Good. That’s where we’re heading.
So this month, I invite you: give yourself permission to wonder. Let yourself ask the questions that feel too big, too bold, too beautiful. Sit with them in your morning practice. Bring them to Sunday service. Share them with a fellow dreamer.
Because here’s what I know: the question “What if?” is not the beginning of a fantasy.
It’s the beginning of a new reality.
And this community knows how to dream and create! I love being on this adventure with you.
Big love,
Rev. Abigail

The Celebration Service is filled with music and song, spiritual practice and an inspiring message. Children are a delightful part of this Service before spending time in small groups with their teachers. This Service is the spiritual and social gathering point for our community – and we love welcoming newcomers to our home!
Our Sunday Service is inspiring and joyful with an uplifting message. Best of all, we apply spiritual principles to daily life that help you contemplate the issues you may be facing. Join us in person or virtually!
We honor all paths to God/Spirit and can help you experience a personal relationship with It. When It is the focus of our spirituality, then other areas of our lives fall into place: we are happier, we can do more for others, be better stewards of the Earth, and help bring peace and harmony to the world.
